Should be done once a year or every 100 hours.The impeller gets hard after a while and the blades will set in the curved position and will not pump as much.An impeller,a few gaskets and about 1 to 1.5 hours labor is all it should take every 100 hours.Alot cheaper than a new powerhead.

SERVICE SHOULD BE DONE ONCE A YEAR. DEPENDING ON WHAT YEAR 115 MERCURY YOU HAVE. THE NEWER STYLE WATER PUMPS CAN GO FOR THE TWO YEAR MARK. NEW STYLE WATER PUMP KIT (P/N 46-43024A7 SELLS FOR $ 119.90). IF YOU DECIDE NOT TO REPLACE IT EVERY TWO TEARS, AND BOLTS BECOME FROZEN IN PLACE WHERE HEATING THEM WOULD REQUIRE MORE LABOR COSTS. BREAKING A BOLT WOULD COST EVEN MORE. USUAL SHOP LABOR TIME WOULD 2.5 HOURS, WHICH WOULD INCLUD DRAINING LOWER UNIT OIL, PRESSURE CHECK BEFORE AND AFTER PUMP IS REPLACED. SOUNDS LIKE THE $400. YOU SPENT SEEMS WITHIN REASON. ALSO, WHEN REPLACING, HAVE THE THERMOSTAT(S) REPLACED WITH SALTWATER USE. AND IF YOUR MODEL ENGINE IS EQUIPPED WITH WITH A DIAPHRAGM, REPLACE THAT TOO. EVERYBODY IGNORES THAT PIECE OF THE COOLING SYSTEM.

400 bucks is a very high. bring it to Balmar Marine in holly hill, he does mine. Its usually about 225.00 and is done next day. their number is 386-852-2628
