Boating in Volusia County | Boat Daytona, Ponce Inlet, Deltona, & more

Do you love fishing? Are you ready for the fishing trip of a lifetime that you’ll never forget? Then it’s time to plan a fishing adventure with one of the many fishing charters located in sunny Florida. I’ve been on many fishing trips but I never knew how exciting it could be until I joined together with a few friends and enlisted the services of a fishing charter. It was incredible!

First of all, we didn’t have to worry about anything but getting there before it was time to head out. They provided all the equipment, covered all passengers for fishing licenses and even provided snacks and beverages. Of course, that was just the beginning. They took us to the best fishing spot I’ve ever seen in my life. The fish was biting like crazy and we hauled in more fish than I ever imagined. They even offered lots of great fishing tips that I still use today.

When you’re ready for the adventure of a lifetime, take advantage of one of the many fishing charters located in your area. In order to find the best charter service for your needs, ask yourself the following questions:

• What type of fishing do you want to do?
• How long do you want to stay out on the water, a few hours, half a day or all day?
• How much experience do you have fishing?
• Do you need or want any special attention while fishing?
• Do you want a private fishing trip with only family or friends or do you mind sharing your time with strangers?

After answering these questions, you’ll have the information you need to start your research and find a fishing charter that offers the services you need. Be sure and look for a charter service that has a good reputation. They should also know the area well and they should be friendly and easy to talk to.

If you love fishing and have never used a charter service in the past, I highly recommend it. It was definitely an adventure that I’ll always remember and I love sharing the stories of that day with friends and family.

There are several different types of Fishing trips, but most fall under the Party Boat, or "6-Pack"
type. If you have a large group, the party boat is about the only option. If you have 6 or less, a private
charter is a great way to do some serious fishing. Not all charters can take 6 people, and even ones
that have the fishing license for 6 may not be comfortable with 6 onboard. I have one of the longest
charter center consoles in the area, and have more deckspace than even larger sportfishers, but for
trolling, I like 3-4 anglers on the trip, so everyone has a chance at fish. If its a family gathering, and you
want to spend time talking while fishing, then bottom fishing is great. If the ocean is a concern, inshore
fishing is a good option, but the best boats for shallow water are not really good for larger groups. I have
a 17' flats, and I prefer myself and one, and the maximum two others with me. This inshore fishing is about
sneaking up on the fish, and its hard to keep quite in a large group. Ask the questions Meghan noted in her
blog, and also the questions I have below.

Since safety is even more important than catching fish, ask if they have the required gear for a
Charter boat (even small boats must have certain gear that a recreational boat does not). Ask if they
provide the fishing license, and if offshore fishing the NOAA permits. Being a legal operation myself,
I certainly would suggest asking to see their credentials, such as their license, TWIC, etc. There are
a lot of people advertising fishing charters, that do catch fish, but are not meeting the legal requirements.
If a potential guide is not willing to answer those questions, or show their credentials, then they are not
a good choice. If they tell you that it's not necessary, or that you have to get your own license, then they
are not a charter. Without the lrgally required items, it is not legal to charge to go fishing on a boat, beyond
sharing in the actual expenses for the day of gas, oil, bait, ice, but not more, not labor or services, not boat
maintance of payments, etc.

When I head out on a charter, the first thing that is done is a safety briefing with the guest. Before the day
of the trip I ask if there are any special needs, so that I can be prepared. I have an agenda for the day that
includes (3) things, in order of importance:

......number 3, Catch Fish......number 2, Have Fun......and the most important thing to accomplish, is to
return safely to the dock at the days end!
