I bought a plain white boat that only had the required numbers on it along with the boat name. I was not happy with it and wanted to make it look better and stand out from the rest of the boats in the marina. I am a graphic designer so I took photos of the exterior of the boat and created some cool graphics that could be cut in vinyl to make my boat look better. I chose a saltwater proof vinyl that is guaranteed to last at least ten years with not peeling which is not going to fade in the sun either.
Now there are companies who can do the same thing to your boat that I did to mine and who is going to install these decals as well. But for those who want to save a little money in the cost of graphic design and installation, they can do the same thing that I did if they have a graphic program such as Photoshop or Illustrator that is going to allow for this type of graphic work. I chose a simple theme with only two colors which is really all that is needed on a boat. I used pin striping to follow the natural contours of the boat and put in some wave designs on the larger parts to tie in with the color of the pin striping.
The two colors I chose were light blue and dark blue to make the waves really seem like they were coming off the boat even when it was docked. The graphic work took me a couple of hours and cutting the vinyl only took one. Adding in the installation time of two hours this was only a five hour project. Those who do not have their own materials can design the logos and have a sign shop cut the vinyl and prepare it for installation. This is going to be the only costs associated as it is quite easy to put the logos on the boat. Anyone who knows how to put a sticker decal on their car can put this vinyl cut outs on their boat easily enough. Those who do not can always have the sign shop install them though it is going to cost for installation. This cost is going to be worth it when your boat, like mine, stands out from the rest!
