Boating in Volusia County | Boat Daytona, Ponce Inlet, Deltona, & more
Experienced Volusia County boat owners will tell you that Ponce Inlet and other Volusia County unique boating locations offer some of the best boating spots in the state of Florida. Whether your idea of boating fun is bringing along some fishing line, or just floating and forgetting about your workday woes, when you boat Ponce Inlet and the surrounding areas, you’re sure to relax and have a great time!
The town of Ponce Inlet, named after explorer Juan Ponce DeLeon who sailed the waters and explored the lands surrounding the inlet in 1513, is a beautiful place to visit and dine. There are several local parks, beaches, great shopping, restaurants and marinas. One of the favorite local attractions is the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and Museum located on the north bank of Ponce Inlet where the Halifax and Indian Rivers flow into the Atlantic Ocean.
When you boat Ponce Inlet, you may want to consider bringing along your fishing gear. Because of the great location – access to the Gulf Stream, several shoreline reefs, and great shore fishing spots – both experienced and novice anglers will be thrilled by the thought of catching Blue Marlin, sailfish, dolphin, wahoo, tuna, and the tough-to-catch Jack Crevalle. The fishing is so good that every May the area plays host to the Greater Daytona Beach Striking Fish Tournament.
If you prefer to boat the ICW instead of the Atlantic by Ponce Inlet, Disappearing Island is a great local hangout. Disappearing Island is located north of the Coast Guard station in an area where the receding tides create a sandbar. Local boaters look forward to spending their time hanging out with both new and longtime nautical pals.
Another great Volusia County boating spot is Daytona Beach. Though mostly known to racing fans, Daytona Beach also offers boaters a full range of sights and things to do. When you boat Daytona Beach, you have access to waterfront restaurants, a great location for water sports like tubing and skiing, as well as easy access to the Atlantic Ocean through nearby Ponce Inlet.
No matter what your boating pleasure, when you boat Daytona Beach (or nearby Ponce Inlet or Disappearing Island), you’re sure to have a fun and relaxing day in the beautiful Florida sun.
